The team narrowly missed the State Meet consideration time by less than half a second!

Varsity loses to Gunn, F/S defeats Gunn

The Boys Frosh-Soph Swimmers wrapped up their 2nd undefeated season in a row while our Varsity team nearly stopped Gunn’s own two-year win streak with a narrow loss.
The Varsity Boys put together a string of impressive swims on Senior Day, but came away with a 95-91 loss to undefeated and defending league champ Gunn.  This was the closest dual meet score in the entire league this season!
Outstanding swims were turned in by Seniors Houfu Yan, Davis Horeff, and Paul MaierPaul lowered his career best in the 200 freestyle by two seconds to 1:50.90.  Sophomores Zach Birrer, David Jung, and Brandon Hong and Junior Trevor Carpenter all set personal records giving Homestead a very strong contingent of swimmers with CCS cuts in their sites heading into League Championships.
The Frosh-Soph boys did it again–a 2nd straight perfect 6-0 regular season–by soundly trouncing Gunn 131-49!!  Super Sophomores Alex Zeren, Oliver Fleming, Maverick Chin, and Nico Duchez led the way to the lopsided victory. David Gallagher and Raymond Chan also contributed to two winning relays as well as individual wins, but this was a complete team victory!  The boys have revenge against Gunn and a league championship on their minds heading into next week..
The De Anza League Swimming and Diving Championships are next Tuesday through Friday at Gunn High School.  Swimming trials for all events begin at 4:00 Wednesday April 27th with Finals on Friday April 29th.  Come show Mustang pride!

Boys Varsity & F/S defeat Saratoga

The Boys swim teams returned home on March 31st and easily handled the visiting Falcons of Saratoga High.  Varsity improved their record to 2-3 on the season an the frosh-soph continued their undefeated season improving to 5-0.
Overall it was a great day for the Varsity Mustangs in the 127-56 win over Saratoga.  It was a triumphant homecoming with Davis Horeff and Houfu Yan winning two events each and contributing to 1st place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.  Jackson Clarno, Brandon Hong, and Corbin Jee also contributed individual wins as well as 1st place relay swims.
The frosh-soph took one step closer to consecutive undefeated seasons with a 117-63 victory.  Outstanding depth was the key again as the boys overcame a disqualification in the 200 free relay only to see the “B” and “C” relay squads complete the 1-2 sweep anyway!!  Nico Duchez won two individual events for the Mustangs.  Raymond Chan and Oliver Fleming also won individual events.  The outstanding swim of the day came from freshman butterflyer Shaylan Dias who claimed his first individual win for the Mustangs!  Shaylan also teamed up with Alex Tsobanoudis, Charlie Crane, and Ryan Wu to take the first place point in the 200 free relay.
The boys have three weeks to prepare for Senior Day and the final home meet of the season against the defending overall league champion Titans of Gunn High School.  The Varsity will look to finish off the regular season on a roll and … read more

Varsity loses to Monta Vista

The Varsity Boys swim team lost its final road meet of the season 107.50 to 75.50.
There were a few bright spots as sophomore Zach Birrer continued to take advantage of his opportunities and posted career bests in the 50 free and 100 butterfly in back to back events.
The boys managed a 1-2 sweep in the 200 free relay:  the team of Houfu Yan, Paul Maier, Brandon Hong, and Davis Horeff placed first and Raymond Lee, Corbin Jee, Zach Birrer, and Avid Jung came in 2nd in a CCS qualifying time of 1:33.90.  Houfu Yan placed 1st in the 200IM.
The Frosh-Soph boys came out of the meet with their win streak intact by swimming extremely well and showing off the team’s depth to pull away for a 101-82 victory over previously unbeaten Monta Vista.
Standouts on this day included sophomores Raymond Chan, Alex Zeren, Maverick Chin, David Gallagher, and Oliver Fleming and freshman butterfly specialists Charlie Crane and Shaylan Dias.
The frosh-soph win streak now stands at 10 in-a-row.
All the boys will be back home to face Saratoga next Friday at 3:45.  Come cheer for your Mustangs!!… read more

Boys F/S and Varsity defeat Los Altos

Boys Varsity and Frosh-Soph swimming both came out big winners at Los Altos on Thursday.
Varsity easily posted it’s first dual meet win of the season 119-67 and Frosh-Soph moved its winning streak to 9 in a row with a thoroughly dominating performance 139-41.
The Varsity boys medley relay team of David Jung, Corbin Jee, Zach Birrer, and Paul Maier started out the meet with an exciting come-from-behind victory that set the tone for the rest of the meet.  The boys posted another CCS qualifying time–the 4th different lineup to do so this season.  The boys won all but two events but none more important than a 1-2-3 sweep of the 500 freestyle by Brandon Hong, Bryce Miner, and Trevor Carpenter which effectively ended the meet.  Sophomore Jackson Clarno won the 200 IM for his first ever individual win as a Mustang.  The team of Davis Horeff, Paul Maier, David Jung, and Houfu Yan swam the fastest regular season 200 freestyle relay in school history in 1:30.59!  Congratulations boys!!
The Frosh-Soph team continued to dominate the DeAnza league by winning every event on Thursday.  They are clearly the team to beat in the DeAnza League having not lost a dual meet since the 2013-2014 school year.  This is a truly historical run for Homestead Boys Swimming.
The boys will face a stern test next Thursday March 24th at league powerhouse Monta Vista.  Please make the short trip to cheer on a truly outstanding group of athletes.  Go Mustangs!!… read more

Varsity almost wins; F/S wins against Los Gatos

The Boys Varsity Swimmers came closer than ever to knocking off rival Los Gatos on Friday, but lost by the closest of margins 95-90 on a cold, rainy Friday at Los Gatos High.  There were plenty of highlights in this close meet:
The winning 200 Medley Relay team of Houfu Yan, Corbin Jee, Raymond Lee, and Paul Maier lowered their season best CCS qualifying time by over 2 seconds to 1:41.76.  Even more impressive was the 3rd place “B” relay team of sophomores David Jung (in his first meet on Varsity) Jackson Clarno, Zach Birrer (also in his first Varsity meet), and Brandon Hong also bettering the CCS standard at 1:45.66.  Houfu Yan won the 200IM and 100 back in CCS qualifying times and Brandon Hong won the 500 freestyle.  Sophomore Zach Birrer placed 2nd in the 100 butterfly in a personal best 58.10 seconds.
The Frosh-Soph team cruised to their 8th consecutive dual meet victory dating to last year by defeating Los Gatos 106-76.  The boys responded well to losing three top team members to the Varsity and new stars emerged to lead the victory.  Nico Duchez was a 4 time winner as a member of the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay while placing 1st in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.  Maverick Chin also won 4 times in the medley relay, 400 free relay, 50 and  100 freestyle and Raymond Chan was a three time winner on the 400 Free Relay while placing 1st in … read more
