Boys finish 21st and Girls 13th at State

On Saturday in Fresno at the CIF State Cross Country Championships saw the culmination of an outstanding cross country season for your Mustangs. In the history of the State Meet, this was one of the coldest meets on record in recent time with temperatures hovering around 44 degrees at the start of the first race and peaking at 62 degrees by the end of the last one.

The Varsity Boys were up first and they had their hands full from the get-go with the other 22 teams that toed the line of this venerable 5K course. They ran a very tough and gamely race from gun to tape, and when it all concluded, they finished 21st overall with a score of 435 points. Sr. Max Sawyer led the team with a 92nd individual finish and a four-second PR of 16:31.0. Next up was Fr. Gabe Rosado in 107th place in a nine-second PR of 16:39.2.  Next up was So. Julien Kehon in 110th place with a time of 16:39.9. Next was Jr. Vincent Li in 113th place with a time of 16:41.9. Then came So. Ryan Ma in 138th place in a time of 16:54.6. Rounding off the final two places were Sr. William Scott in 166th place in 17:19.8, and So. Sahil Morchi in 178th place with a time of 17:36.6.

Varsity girls win CCS, boys earn 3rd

      On Saturday at the CCS Cross Country Championships (results linked here) at the fable Crystal Springs course in San Mateo, your Lady Mustangs ran away with their third consecutive CCS Division I team title, a feat that only has been done once before when Carlmont HS reeled off four such titles between 2005-2008. While the Varsity Boys for the second consecutive year finished third in the team standings and join the girls once again on a trip to the CIF State Championships set for Fresno on November 26th. 
      The Varsity Girls won the team title by a large margin of 39 to 89 points over their arch-rivals Monta Vista HS. They were led by Jr. Elena Kamas who became the first female runner in Homestead HS history to win an individual CCS title. Kamas ran 17:57.65 for the 2.95 mile course. Next up was Sr. Lindsay Allen who made the podium by finishing third in 18:32.88. Then came SoKatie Williams in eight with a 19:12.37; Jr. Jillian O’Brien was next in 10th place in 19:44.86; So. Sammy Lieberman was next in 17th place in 20:07.13. Rounding out the other team places were Jr. Rebecca Hasser who placed 39th in 20:40.03, and Fr. Darian Lee finishing in 50th place with a time of 21:03.57.

MUSTANGS WIN SCVAL LEAGUE TITLES AGAIN

For the second time in 38 years, HHS boys and girls teams won both varsity cross country titles yesterday at SCVAL Championships held at Crystal Springs. It was the second team title for the boys since 1987,  and on the girl’s side, fourth title in five years (2011, 2012, 2015 & 2016). In addition, the F/S Boys won the team title once again, VB B-team won the team title, and the JV Girls finished second. Overall, we competed in total five team titles races and walked away with four team titles and a second place, a carbon copy of last year’s performances.

Varsity Girls Team: Takes first place with 28 points in a jaw dropping team time of 1:33:45.8 mins (destroying the old school record mark of 1:34:43.9 mins set just last year at this same meet). This time now moves them #17 on the Crystal Springs fable cross country course all-time list!

Varsity lose to Los Gatos 2-5

The varsity girls tennis team lost the last match of the season  2-5 in league play.
Great play by Christine Yu and Preeti Kulkarni at # 2 doubles winning 6-1 6-3.
The team finished up with 10 wins and 10 loses for the year.

JV defeated Los Gatos 4-3

The JV Girls tennis team finished the season on a high note with a 4-3 victory over Los Gatos and claimed second place in league with a 10-2 record, and 16-2 overall.

Down a set, Asaka Higuchi made a great comeback and won the deciding match with a 10-7 tie breaker at #2 singles.

Congratulations to Kary Wang and Alex Pavel for finishing the season undefeated at #1 doubles.

Varsity Girls seeded first for ElCamino League tournament

The Varsity Girls finished the league season with a 13-1 record.  They finished 1st in the DeAnza division!  The end of season tournament starts Tuesday.  All games will be at Homestead.  The first game is against Milpitas at 3:15 Tuesday.
