Cross Country

Both girls and boys teams going to State!

Hi All Mustangs,
Today was a historic day in the annals of Homestead cross country. For the first time in the history of HHS cross country, the boys and girls teams advanced to the State Meet simultaneously. Your Lady Mustangs won their second consecutive CCS title, while the boys finished third in what was considered nail biting races all day.
The Varsity Girls were in a battle from gun to tape with Monta Vista and Menlo-Atherton High Schools in hot pursuit the entire race; however, with strong team running, they were able to separate themselves in the final 1/2 mile and went on to win with a team score of 62 points, to Monta Vista’s 89 points, and Menlo’s 95 points. They were led by Jr. Lindsay Allen who placed fourth in 18:34.9, then next came Fr. Katie Williams in sixth in 18:44.2; So. Elena Kamas was next in 11th place in 19:07.8.  Rounding out the other team places were: So. Jillian O’Brien was 20th in 19:47.1; So. Rebecca Hasser in 19:47.9; Fr. Sammy Lieberman 32nd in 20:18.1; and Sr. Nicole Aufricht finishing in 33rd place with 20:18.1.
The Varsity Boys, seeking to join their female counterparts to the State meet, had to battle all the way to finish to secure their spot with a third place team finish with 88 points. The team title went to Bellarmine Prep with a score of 29 points, and second place went to Paly HS with 65 points. Sr. Chris Reed led … read more

First at SCVAL

Yesterday will go down as one of the most exciting and memorable days in SCVAL League cross country history for your Mustangs. For the first time in 37 years, HHS boys and girls teams won both varsity titles. It was the first team title for the boys since 1987, that’s 28 years in waiting folks; and on the girls side, third title in five years (2011 & 2012). In addition, the  F/S Boys won the team title once again, VB B-team won the team title, and the JV Girls finished second. Overall, we competed in total five team titles races and walked away with four team titles and a second place.
The Varsity Girls got the historic day rolling by taking first with 39 points in a scintillating new HHS Varsity team time of 1:34:43.9 mins, erasing the old mark of 1:35:03.6 mins set just last year. This time now moves them #26 on the Crystal Springs fable cross country course all-time list. Sophomore Elena Kamas, won the individual title in a new school record of 17:47.4, a PR (personal record) by 21 secs, and erased the old school record of 17:48 that was set 38 years ago by the peerless harrier Joan Fox. Rounding out the other team finishers: Jr. Lindsay Allen third place 18:27.5; Fr. Katie Williams fifth 18:45.5; Sr. Nicole Aufricht 14th 19:47.5; So. Jillian O’Brien 16th 19:56.0; Fr. Sammy Lieberman 17th 20:10.8; and Jr. Caela Barnhart 23rd 20:29. 4.

2014-2015 Girl’s Basketball Season Recap

Posted 3/5/15

· 3/4—Varsity lost to Bellarmine 57-37 in the CCS semi-finals

· Collin Spence put on a furious, energetic show tonight for the large group of Homestead fans assembled at Independence High School for the CCS Division 1 semifinal game against juggernaut Bellarmine. He had 18 points on just 10 shots from the field and was nearly perfect from the free throw line (10 of 12). He also had his usual ration of rebounds (5), and had 2 assists and a steal. He had several circus shots on driving scores in the lane against a tough Bellarmine defense and a couple of beautiful “ankle breakers,” causing defenders to struggle to remain on their feet; but, in the end, it wasn’t enough, as the Mustangs fell to the Bells. Homestead’s season is over at 17 wins and just 8 losses, second place in the De Anza League, and in the Final Four of CCS Division 1.

Varsity loses to Carlmont 3-2 in CCS Semifinals

On Tuesday the Mustangs traveled to PAL Stadium in San Jose to face off against the Carlmont Scots in a Division 1 CCS Semifinal game.

In the top of the first after the Mustangs Pitcher Brittany Prock struck out the first batter.  The Scots number two hitter drove the ball in the left center gap for a double, however she tried to stretch it to a triple and was gunned out at third.  This play set the tone for the Mustangs defense for most of the game.

In the bottom of the first, Julie Davis led off the Mustang inning with a triple and scored on Nancy Liu’s safety squeeze.

In the third Davis stepped to the plate with one out and showed why she was the De Anza divisions Most Valuable Player as she hit a homerun to right. From that moment on both pitcher just kept mowing down batter after batter until the seventh.

In the Carlmont 7th, the leadoff hitter reached on an error followed by an infield single.  The Scots then bunted to move the tying runs into scoring position but the Mustangs threw the ball into right and Carlmont had its first run.  The next batter followed with a base hit which scored two and the Mustangs saw the lead they had built from inning 1 erased.  The Mustangs were able to close out the inning without any more damage and returned to the plate to see if they had anymore late inning … read more

Track teams does well, records set

Hi All Mustangs,

Its has been about three months since I last spoke to you all about the goings on in track and field arena of our team. I’ll try my best to give you a quick chronological update on where we stand at this juncture of the season.
This year was our first year being in DAL (DeAnza Athletic League) which is considered the strong league. The going was rough all season long as we try to get acclimated, hence our 4 wins and 24 losses in all combined divisions in League track meets.
At our DAL Champions just concluded on Tuesday and Thursday at Los Gatos HS this past week, we finished 4th in VarsityGirls with 51 points, 5th in JVGirls with 57 points, 7th in VarsityBoys with 25 points, and 4th in Frosh/Soph Boys with 75 points.
We just concluded SCVAL Qualifier on Friday at Los Gatos HS, and the top 6 in each event advance to CCS Trials set for May 21st at Gilroy HS. On Friday we had 29 athletes that made it to the Qualifier, and we came away with 6 athletes qualifying in their respective events. They are Miranda Zinola, Jr. (VG Discus), Kento Takahasi, Sr. (VB Shot Put), Daniel Graves, Sr. (VB 1600), Ryan Ma, FR. (VB 1600m), Elena Kamas, Soph. (VG 1600M) and Lindsay Allen, JR. (VG1600m).
During the regular season our athletes made an assault on the Homestead Track … read more

2014-2015 Track Season Recap

Posted 5/31/15

· 5/29—For the first time in Homestead HS track and field history, a female distance runner has advance to the CIF State Championships. On Friday, Elena Kamas, a freshman, competing in the girls 1600m, ran a very methodical race to place 3rd overall in a new HHS record of 4:58.33, and stamped her ticket to the State Meet. The race came down to the last 100m where you saw five athletes fighting tooth and nail down the homestretch to see who would win the CCS title. Kamas, known for her devastating kick in the final 100m, displayed that prowess and just merely ran out of real estate of catching the entire group by a scant 35 one hundredths second for the win. An amazing effort to see if you were on hand to witness. The top three in each event qualifies for the State Meet.

· Also, in the girls 3200m, sophomore Lindsay Allen galloped to a hard fought 10th placed finish in a new HHS record of 11:09.02, and Miranda Zinola placed 8th overall in the girls discus throw in 112′-07.”

· Now it’s on to the CIF State Meet on June 5-6th in Clovis at Buchanan High School for Elena. Wish her all the best, and stay tuned for results from this meet.

Posted 5/11/15

· The final dual meet season came to a closed on April 27th, and we walked away with a 16-4 regular season record that helped solidify our chances of fulfilling … read more
